STATION I 

INTRODUCTION AND WATER SAFETY

Equipment needed:

Script, whistle or some other type of signal, station sign, 1-2 volunteers

Lecture:

The group is presented with information on what to expect during the day and how the rotation system works. Information on water safety is also presented.

A. Water Safety Talk.

 
 

1. Pool (discuss all that apply to the facility).

 
 

a. All rules posted

1. Pool Blankets/covers

 

c. Rescue equipment

2. Ladders/Steps

 
d. Self Closing gates
i. Diving Areas
 
e. Pool Fences

1. No swimming

 

f. Outside Phone

2. Verify adequate depth

 

g. Pool Alarm

 
     
  2. Ponds, Lakes, Canals & Other Natural Bodies of Water.
 

a. Gradual Slope

 
 

1. Underwater Obstructions

 

2. Underwater Drop-offs

 
b. Define and supervise swimming areas
 

c. Feet first, first time

   
  3. Bathtubs, Toilets, Buckets.
 

a. Non-skid bottoms in tubs

 

b. Cushion waterspouts

 

c. Check water temperature

 

d. Empty and store buckets safely after each use

   
B. Never Leave Children Unattended!!
 

1. Use common sense & safety at all times. Encourage everyone, especially children, to participate in
swimming lessons. Encourage all to learn CPR and First Aid.
