1. Reaching Assist.

a. Brace yourself firmly by keeping your center of gravity low, use the
pole to extend your reach into the water

b. Instruct the victim to grasp the pole and pull him or her to safety

2. Throwing Assist.

a. Ring buoy

1. Brace yourself by keeping your center of gravity low.
2. Step on the non-throwing end of the rope.
3. Aim your throw so the buoy will fall beyond the victim and then pull it within the victim’s reach.
4. Instruct the victim to hold on and pull him or her to safety.

3. Jug With Line.

a. Throw this the same way as the ring buoy
b. This can easily be made by using a gallon plastic jug with 50-75 feet of line attached; put 1/2 inch of water in the bottom

4. Keep a first aid kit and portable phone in the immediate area so that you never have to leave the pool area unattended for any reason.
