What is the Virginia Water Safety Coalition?
The Coalition is dedicated to helping children, adolescents and their parents be safe when they are in, on or around the water. The members include representatives from state and national agencies, local universities and colleges and organizations who work with people and the water.
Who is being helped by the Virginia Water Safety Coalition?
The Coalition has distributed over 1600 Water Safety Resource Kits to public and private schools, Recreation Departments and various health and safety agencies (as of Summer 1999). We have sent Kits to 4H Clubs, Public School teachers, a beach patrol in Florida, a Head Start group, US Army personnel in Kentucky, EMS groups and a dive rescue team. We have been contacted by individuals from New Zealand, California, Georgia, Oregon and Canada.
In addition, the Water Safety Coalition has funded grants promoting Water Safety Day in 12 localities in Virginia.
What is the Water Safety Resource Kit?
It is a resource for interested individuals who have access to our target group of children, adolescents and their parents and seek to educate them in the area of water safety. This web site replicates the paper version of the kit with the advantages of the web. Material in the paper version can be copied for distribution. To view the kit online, click here.
